From Grains of Sand glass artist Bob Hoffmeyer creates his lampworked beads, fused glass pendants, and jewelry in Makawao, Maui, Hawaii. He combines his handmade beads and pendants with semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski crystals, Czech and Japanese glass beads, fresh water pearls, sterling silver, and 14kt gold to make one of a kind finished pieces. Of his art he says:
Molten glass has its own organic nature and working with it successfully requires that that nature be honored. If I let it, the glass will guide me in a co-creative process. With some creative expression in mind and sufficient technical skill, I can push the limits. However, for the magic of creation to happen, I must remember that the limits are set by the glass itself.
The name From Grains of Sand came in a moment of inspiration as I contemplated the transformations the material I am working with go through-from sand to sheets and rods of beautifully colored glass and finally to a finished piece.
